Dr. Donna Woolard
NCAAHPERD Service Award 2003
Donna Woolard is an associate professor of Exercise
Science and director of the Physical Education Teacher Education
(PETE) Program at Campbell University. A native of Washington, NC,
Woolard joined the faculty of Campbell University in 1994. Under her
direction, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI)
and the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE)
have cited the Physical Education Teacher Education program at
Campbell as “exemplary”. Recognized as an expert in the professional
preparation of physical education teachers, Woolard has been
personally cited as an "exemplary" teacher educator by NCATE and NCDPI.
Dr. Woolard has been named to Who’s Who in the South and Southeast,
Who’s Who in American Education, and Who’s Who in the World.
In May of 1998, Dr. Woolard was named Teacher of the Year by the
Campbell University College of Arts and Sciences. In December of 2000,
Dr. Woolard was declared College and University Physical Education
Teacher of the Year by the Physical Education Association of the North
Carolina Alliance for Athletics, Health, Physical Education,
Recreation and Dance. The National Association for Sport and Physical
Education's Council for Professional Preparation in Physical Education
invited her to conduct a half-day workshop on the Physical Education
Praxis Exams at the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education,
Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) 2001 National Convention in Cincinnati.
She has presented numerous workshops on the Praxis at many state and
national conventions. Donna is also a leader in instructional
technology. She has made numerous presentations at the state and
national levels on using technology to aid student learning. She is an
accomplished webmaster and is noted for making instructional
interactive websites.
Donna has served, for the past 4 years, as the editor, layout
designer, and contributor for the NCAAHPERD News, our Alliance
newsletter. Because of her selfless dedication and willingness to
serve, NCAAHPERD is honored to award Donna Woolard this Service Award.
